Back Again!

Hi Everyone!

Sorry it’s taken forever for me to post something - the holidays are pretty busy for the Rec department. We’ve had lots of things going on, which I’ll describe in separate posts.

Generally, I’ve been busy but otherwise doing all right - the 24 hours daylight is starting to get to me a wee bit - I could stand to see some stars! The food’s also getting a bit monotonous - they’re starting to repeat quite a bit. I crave freshies like you wouldn’t believe!

Anyway, here’s my friend Jane getting ready to do some awesome bowling on our two lanes with manual pinsetting.

The lanes were installed in 1961 and I imagine they were quite the thing at that time! Now the lanes are warped by long use and the leaky roof that drips meltwater on the wood every year. It’s still fun and challenging to play on, and pinsetting is great exercise!

Looks like you’re bowling pumpkins! Can’t wait to see the picture of the Xmas tree.
TA CAO Good to hear from you Sunday last.

Well there you are, I figured you fell off the face of the planet down there where gravity is only 1/4 what it is on the rest of the planet? Oh wait, did I get my facts wrong? Oh well, it’s been known to happen, from time to time…

Heh heh … no, Jason, they wear velcro on their feet to keep from falling off, didn’t you hear?

So it looks like you’re finally warmer than us again - although only by three degrees. We’re finally getting the snow here in upstate; it’s impressive (and so is the cleanup). They’re good about keeping the roads in driveable shape, but it’s still a real change. Nothing as outright disconcerting as the lack of stars - unless you count the perpetual overcast. (I did see blue today!)

I suppose if you want a level playng field, there’s always curling!

Hah, bowling in Antarctica, now I’ve seen it all! Unless of course you start bowling for penguins then I’ll start to be worried.

Wow, 24 hour days, amazing. That would be cool to experience but I can certainly understand how it could mess with ya. I suppose that means the bay ice will be melting soon?

Winter has finally arrived here in Colorado after an unusually long streak of warm dry weather (we’ve been in the 60s for most of November!) Though I’m sure our current 24 degree weather would be like a balmy summer day down there!

    Ciao bella!

Yep, we’ve got lots of things here besides bowling - there’s a nine-hole disc golf course, climbing wall, bouldering cave and baseball field - of course, half the time the baseball field has milvans on it, and the place where the boys play rugby is really just a parking lot most of the time.

The Kiwis have a ski hill with a rope tow, too, but it’s off limits to us for the moment. Thank our paranoid and litigious society for that one.

It’s been really nice here - sunny, not too windy and between 20 and 30 degrees. Seals came out to Hut Point yesterday, so the sea ice must be breaking up. It should go out altogether when the icebreaker Oden comes in early January.
