Fantastic Rainyland

Yet another check-in…we’re in Invercargill at the moment, but we spent last night at a crazy cool campground out in the middle of nowhere, right on the beach, with high cliffs on either side of the coast. We even saw a sea lion eating a fish out on the beach, right before we went to bed! There were tide pools and other cool things to look at there too. Only problem was that it started to rain like crazy last night so we had a wet camp this morning!

We drove on through to Invercargill, which is the southernmost city in NZ. We’re staying at a nice campground where we could run some laundry and take showers. We’re getting ready to go to the third largest island in NZ, which is Stewart Island. We hope to do some hiking and camping there.

New Zealand is an amazingly beautiful country, and it’s been fantastic to see everything. There really are a lot of sheep! There are also lots of Subways everywhere, and they are always mobbed!!

Can you get a sheep on a footlong?

Subway? Who eats at Subway? HA! J/K

Of course our first meal in Ireland when meeting up with our classmates was, SUBWAY! :)

Glad you’re having a good time! If you get some specifics of where you are going to be I can get in contact with my NZ friend, he’s willing to play tour guide for a day…

I’m so jealous, camping on the beach! Awesome. I’m in need of a vacation in such a bad way. Hopefully you’re taking a lot of photos so I can live the adventure life vicariously through you! So, does the Subway there have metric conversion for the sandwiches? I remember in Ireland they weren’t called “foot longs.”

    Ciao, Lisa

I think they did a conversion in Germany, but it might have been ‘large’ and ’small’. Can’t recall.
All this talk of mutton brings back flashbacks of Uzbekistan. The restaurant, corner of La Brea, I mean. Always did like that place.
We’re finally up to 54F today - spring hath sprung, despite the 10 foot snowbanks. It’s so weird.
Remember: it’s not real until you’ve shot the slideshow!
